To Kill a Mockingbird premiered nearly 60 years ago! Even today, the message is powerful and important. To celebrate, I was gifted the 60th Anniversary Edition 4k Ultra HD but all opinions are my own.
About the story and the characters
To Kill a Mockingbird is based off a book by Harper Lee. It follows Atticus Finch and his kids in a journey about doing what is right. Atticus Finch shows in words and in his actions how to be a fair and good man. In fact, Atticus Finch was named the AFI number 1 hero beating out Indiana Jones and James Bond. I personally love the character so much that one name that I considered for my son was Atticus as I knew then he’d be named after a strong man.
My favorite quote from the movie is “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…”. How true is that, even today!?
About the 60th Anniversary Edition
Let’s talk about the 4k Ultra HD! First off, the quality is amazing, it does not look 60 years old! The sound is great and can we talk about that stunning main theme by Elmer Bernstein!? Beyond the amazing movie, the special features are outstanding. “To Kill a Mockingbird: All Points of View” is a documentary that looks at the legacy and impact of the film. It was really good!
Additionally, there are 2 feature length documentaries: “Fearful Symmetry” and “A Conversation with Gregory Peck” to watch. I am a sucker for awards shows so I really enjoyed watching Gregory Peck’s Academy Award speech and his AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. Included in the special features was an excerpt of Tribute to Gregory Peck and an interview with Mary Badham who played Scout. I learned a lot from the special features.
If you are a fan of the movie or the book, this edition is a MUST HAVE! Thank you to Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for this amazing film.
